Region of northern Oderbruch-Oberbarnim

Oderbruch, Bad Freienwalde, Wriezen

The sparsely populated region can be described as the vegetable garden of Berlin because of its extreme fertile soils. Parts of the Oderbruch, a Pleistoscene dead-ice valley, were drained by King Frederick the Great and therefore made useful for farming.

Beside its diversified agriculture became the region, with its big farmyards, a hot-spot for people engaged in the cultural sector.
